Reflexology

Bristol Based Reflexologist. There are more than 7,000 nerve endings on each foot. Each of these areas, known as reflex points, corresponds to a specific system, gland, organ or part of the human body.

How reflexology may help you

Reflexology is a fabulous therapy, it creates space to feel a beautiful blissfulness inside and out,

It is extremely effective and works due to the fact that our organs, energy channels, zones/meridians correspond to reflexes in the feet and hands. By stimulating these reflexes gently by applying targeted pressure and massage techniques, it addresses the whole body allowing any of these blocked energy channels to flow freely again. This releases tension, encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms and can bring relief to a whole range of conditions both chronic and acute. Equally it can just be a time of deep relaxation and time out from busy modern day living.

Being non- invasive it is suitable for all ages. Each session is unique and individual leaving you with a sense of wholeness and revitalised energy, restoring the body’s balance and therefore good health.

What happens in a treatment?

Firstly we would look at what you are requiring from the treatment and go through the consultation — this doesn’t take long and isn’t complicated. You can choose whether you would like to lie on the couch or sit on the reflexology chair — you stay fully clothed apart from your feet. You can choose if you would like some soothing gentle music on or enjoy the silence. Once you are comfortable, snug and warm we start the session — again you can choose if you would like to stay aware of the session or do as most people do and drift off into total relaxation. Perhaps not really a conscious choice — your body knows what it needs.

Benefits of Reflexology

Reducing Stress

Unfortunately, stress cannot usually be avoided; we live with it or in it every day in some form or another. When we fail to manage it well, especially the stress that results from problems, frustrations, overwork or worry, the body’s defences can break down and we become more susceptible to illness and disease. Reflexology reduces stress by generating deep, tranquil relaxation and peace allowing the nervous system to calm down, helping the body balance itself and allowing healing energy to flow smoothly and gently throughout.

Improving Circulation

We all know how important it is for blood to flow freely throughout the body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to all the cells that make up the tissues of the body and removing waste products of metabolism and other toxins. Stress and tension tighten up the cardiovascular system and restricts blood flow in which the circulation becomes sluggish. By reducing stress and tension, reflexology allows the miles of cardiovascular vessels to conduct the flow of blood naturally and easily.

Cleaning the Body of Toxins and Impurities

The body has a built-in mechanism for self-cleaning, mainly the lymphatic system (lymph nodes), kidneys, the colon and the skin. If these become blocked or function improperly, toxins and waste matter can build up. By deepening relaxation, reflexology causes all the systems to function more efficiently, including those that eliminate the waste products.

Rebalancing

The technical term is ‘homeostasis’ and it means being in a dynamic state of balance. The multitude of cells and areas of the body each function to their own laws and purposes and work closely with each other. If one function or part is out of sync, other parts may suffer. Reflexology helps the body to run harmoniously, keeping energy levels flowing consciously and unconsciously throughout the body on a physical, emotional and mental level.

Pain Management & Increasing Mobility

Reflexology can be used to help a large number of painful conditions. Stiffness, sciatica, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, frozen shoulder, whiplash and sports injuries are some of the conditions that can respond well to treatment.

Whether you are suffering from headaches, pain in the back, shoulder, knees or neck, direct pressure applied to reflex points on the feet during treatment can interrupt sensory transmission and confuse the nervous system, so pain is not perceived in the same way. Reflexology also encourages the production of endorphins, our body’s natural painkillers.

Reflexology can also reduce inflammation helping to ease muscular pain caused by overstretching or injury. This helps to improve blood supply to the affected area, which in turn may improve range of movement.
