Meet the Herd
Arthur is a standard Shetland he’s 10.2 hands he is 20 years old.. he’s a very kind soul, we don’t know what happened to him before he came to us, he has always been well behaved where he could. He was very scarred of sticks brooms or anything in your hand that was big and would try to move away from you. He’s pretty much over that now and has bloomed into a mostly confident pony who is super understanding and kind. He’s done lots of pony club which he really enjoyed and childrens parties he loves, as he loves children and his food he loves his food.
Susie is a 7 year old mini Shetland and is 34 in. She was semi feral when she came to us, very hesitant and if she got worried she would let you know by pinning her ears back or turning her back on you. She has grown lots in confidence, is strong willed and the sweetest pony and was the best mom to Ziggy
Ziggy is 30 in and is a mini Shetland and is 2 years old, he is Susies son. He is cheeky and just full of fun he’s just learning the ropes from the rest of the herd at the moment and training with us, he’s always very enthusiastic and keen to learn new things.
Pepsi is 7 years old and a mini Shetland and is only 29in she settled straight is when she arrived, it was like she had always been here, although she knows her own mind she is very sweet and loves a fuss. She has had a foal this year who was born with a few problems which she took all in her stride and was happy for us to access her while we helped her.
Zara is Pepsi’s friend (they came from the same stud) and the last one to have joined us, she’s also a super small mini Shetland 29 in and is 8 years old. Zara settled in as if she had always been here too, she was super happy to see Pepsi. Zara is very laid back and happy in her skin she knows her own mind and what she wants, she loves a fuss and being groomed.
Little Dolly day dream (Dolly) is Pepsi’s foal. She had dummy foal syndrome because she was born too quickly. It means she couldn’t suckle, was very disorientated and walled into walls as if she was blind. She went up to the equine hospital to have the colostrum through a tube to get her going, there is a manoeuvre that helps bring them back to awareness we had to do that several times, and she eventually got the feeding herself right and is now a very happy foal who loves attention.
Rosie is an Irish draught, she’s a big girl standing at 16.2 hands Rosie hasnt had the best of beginnings she had seven homes before she came to us before she was three years old, that’s hugely unsettling for a horse of any age and she showed signs of stress, It became clear after a few months that there was something else wrong, her behavour took a nose dive after lot of vet visits and an MRI scan at the equine hospital they found she had an old neck injury of torn ligaments where her head meets her neck which she had obviously retorn. Her behaviour got worse as she was acting out her anger and her pain taking it out on anything or anyone around her. We turned her out in the field on her own with the others around her for company and allowed her to unwind and become more comfortable in her own skin, it was touch and go for a while if she was going to make it. She has turned out to be one of the most emotionally intelligent horses I have ever met and i have huge respect for how far she has come in her own healing journey .
